Buying guide for best air cooler in India

The following factors should be kept in mind when buying the best air cooler in India

Air Distribution Rate

How much power air cooler you should buy depends entirely on the size of your room. Which air cooler will be right for your room depends on the air delivery rate of that cooler. Its unit is cubic feet per minute. Air delivery rate directly affects the cooling of your room.

If you buy a low power air cooler, this cooler will not be able to cool your room effectively. This means that the cooler air will not reach the entire room properly, due to which your room will not be cold.

If you buy a high power air cooler, then its fan will make more noise. Because of which your nights will be disturbed. After all, how do you know how much air distribution rate air cooler you have to buy.

We have given a calculation of how much CFM air cooler to buy for your convenience as per your room size. This simple calculation will definitely help you find the correct size of cooler required.

Air Distribution Rate calculation

If the size of your room is 15 feet (length), 15 feet (width), and 12 feet (height), then the air required to cool your room will be distributed:

Total volume of the room = 15 * 15 * 12 = 2700 ft3

Suppose it takes one hour for the air to circulate from this room.

So CFH (Horse on air flow) = 2700 ft3 / hr

CFM (min on air flow) = 2700/60 ft3 / m = 45 ft3 / m

Most air coolers available in the Indian market have an air delivery rate in cubic meters per hour (m3 / hr). To provide an air delivery rate, let’s convert CFM to cubic meters per hour. To do this, we will multiply the calculated air distribution rate above 1.7.

45 ft3 / m x 1.7 = 76.5 m3 / min (approx) = 4590 ft3 / hr

This means that the minimum air delivery rate required to cool your 15 ft x 15 ft room is 4590 ft3 / hr.

Disclaimer: “You should know that whatever air delivery rate the company writes is with the fan at the top speed of the air cooler. So if you use an air cooler at a low speed then it may take longer for your room to cool down.

Water tank capacity

When purchasing the best air cooler, the capacity of its water tank should also be known. If your cooler tank is small, it will contain very little water. If the water tank is small, in which there are only 4 to 5 liters of water, then this water will be finished in the middle of the night. Then you have to get up at night and fill it again with water. Due to this, you may have poor sleep. For this, you should buy an air cooler that has at least 15 to 20 liters of water in the tank.

Type of cooling pad

You must have seen on the side of each of your air coolers that there are pads on all three sides. These cooling pads play an important role in keeping your room cool. These cooling pads circulate evenly the water available in the tank. It is through these cooling pads that the outside air enters the cooler and the cooler gives us cool air.

There are two types of cooling pads used in air coolers –

  1. Aspen pad
  2. Honeycomb pad

Aspen pads are made of wood shavings, they are completely natural. While honeycomb pads are made of cellulose material, these pads are made in the factory. Aspen pads are made of wood, so they have to be replaced every year compared to honeycomb pads. Whereas you can wash the honeycomb pad with water and use it again as a new pad. However, both types of cooling pads help cool the cooler air well.

When the summer season is over, the cooler is of no use. It stays in one corner of the house. Whilst the aspen pads deteriorate while the honeycomb pads do not deteriorate. So whenever you buy the best air cooler, buying only one with a honeycomb pad.

Advantage of Air Cooler

  • An air cooler is much cheaper than an air conditioner. Because it uses only water to cool your room. Therefore, there is no harm to the environment due to the use of air coolers.
  • To buy an air cooler, you need much less investment than an air conditioner.
  • It consumes a lot of work power compared to air conditioners.
  • You can easily sift the air cooler from one place to another where you need it.
  • Air conditioners frequently cool the air inside a room. Whereas the air cooler manages the fresh air outside in the room, that is, it gives you fresh air.

Disadvantage of Air Cooler

  • An air cooler depends on the climate around your home. Due to the use of water in it, it increases the humidity of the room. And in areas with high humidity, coolers prove less efficient.
  • A continuous supply of water in the cooler is also required. If you are short of water, it becomes a little difficult to give water to the cooler.
  • In a cooler made of iron or steel, due to hard water, corrosion is prevented.
  • Whenever the air cooler runs in the house, its fan makes a lot of noise.
